Dave Izumi (otherwise known as Dave Lynch) is a highly experienced producer/ engineer/ mixer who has worked with the likes of Ed Harcourt, Example, Duke Special, Luke Sital-Singh, Wise Blood and Hudson Taylor.
He started his career in 1991 as a tape-op at ICC Studios located in Eastbourne on the South Coast of England. In 1995 he went freelance as an engineer/producer. His love of analogue recording saw him work out of studios such as RAK, Jacob’s, and Master Rock throughout the 90’s and early 2000’s working with predominantly UK indie artists, including Toploader and Iain Archer.
He moved to France in 2004 to work with James Sanger (responsible for the debut Keane album amongst others). It was here Dave mastered the art of programming vintage analogue synthesisers and learned much about commercial pop arranging. Other producers Dave has engineered alongside include the legendary producer Steve Osborne (Perfecto/Factory Records).
In 2005 he set up Izumi Records. Originally a vinyl-only label, Izumi was one of the first record labels to include a digital download with its vinyl releases. After a stint producing records on the West Coast of America, he returned to the UK and set up his own analogue recording facility Batbox Studios in Lewes.
Following on from his success at Batbox, he recently purchased the old ICC Studios in Eastbourne with 2 colleagues.
Now re-launched as Electric Zoo, this complex has been renovated and revamped to include 2 main recording and mixing studios with a choice of various live rooms – from 70’s designed ‘dead rooms’ to huge sounding echo chamber, rehearsal facilities, a mastering suite and accommodation.
Through his passion for vintage equipment, Dave has amassed a vast collection of analogue synths and keyboards in the studios, a microphone collection matching some of the finest studios in the world as well as state-of-the-art desks and programming equipment including SSL and Calrec consoles.
Now working out of Electric Zoo, Dave’s more recent output has included the latest Ed Harcourt album, and albums or sessions for Jake Bugg, Example, Luke Sital-Singh, David Ford and Hudson Taylor.
