Sweet Billy Pilgrim

Formed in 2003 and named after the main character in Kurt Vonnegut’s book Slaughterhouse 5, Sweet Billy Pilgrim are an English experimental rock/art band, whose current line-up is singer, guitarist and songwriter Tim Elsenburg and singer Jana Carpenter. They have so far released 2 EP’s and 6 albums and describe their sound as “thrash pastel”.

They released their first album, We Just Did What Happened and No One Came in 2005, awarded four stars by Mojo magazine and described by The Sunday Times as “a rather special debut”. The follow-up, Twice Born Men, released in 2009, also received much critical acclaim, with a Mercury Music Prize nomination and making The Sunday Times top 100 albums list of that year. The band’s third album, Crown And Treaty, self-released on their label Luxor Purchase, received excellent reviews,with all major UK national papers awarding the record four or five stars out of five.

Their second album Twice Born Men was released to much critical acclaim in 2009, with a Mercury Music Prize nomination and making The Sunday Times top 100 albums list of that year. The albums Motorcade Amnesiacs (2015) and Wapentak (2018) followed and at the end of 2022, their new album Somapolis was released into the world.
